Gorse Academy 100% Club
“I am always ready to learn although I do not always like being taught.” – Winston Churchill
Keeping kids interested in school can be a constant struggle. The star pupils will apply themselves and learn. Some kids will rail against the system no matter what you do, and the bulk of them will fall somewhere in the middle.
The Gorse Academy, responsible for a large group of schools and Academies throughout West Yorkshire, came up with the 100% club initiative.
Any pupil who has a 100% attendance record becomes a member of the club, and gets to attend the events we provide for them.
These are usually mini funfairs, with rides, catering, games and photo booths. A large group of the academies schools are working with us to deliver the initiative, with one teacher remarking that they have seen around an 8% jump in regular attendance.
The event normally runs as follows;
- Larger rides are set up the day before
- Smaller items come in on the morning of the event.
- We usually operate from 9am to 3pm
- Groups of pupils are brought out in their year groups, one at a time
- A group takes part for around 50 minutes
- At the end of the day, we stay a short while for the staff to enjoy themselves
Most of the work we have done is aimed at high school age groups, but we have a range of smaller rides for primary school aged children.
We provide attractions to around 30 events per year, and during the busy summer term have successfully covered upto 6 schools the same day.
